INHOUSE returns for a 25th anniversary show

Bands come and go in music, but Palm Beach County's own InHouse is a band that specializes in comebacks.

Since disbanding in 1999, InHouse's initial 2009 reunion show at the Cuillo Centre for the Arts in downtown West Palm Beach necessitated more frequent returns by popular demand. Subsequent reunions have included the Bamboo Room in Lake Worth Beach in 2014 and the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach in 2019.

For its 25th anniversary, InHouse returns to the Bamboo Room -- reopened in February as Rudy's at Bamboo -- for an 8:30 p.m. performance on December 21. One hundred tickets went up for pre-sale for $25 at www.eventbrite.com on August 15. All remaining tickets were sold through the site in October. Additional tickets will also be available at the door, subject to the room's capacity, at 25 S. J St. in Lake Worth Beach (561-602-5307, rudyspubinlakeworth.com).

InHouse initially formed in 1992 as the acoustic duo of twin sisters Gin Weintraub Blische (vocals, guitar) and Evi Weintraub Scapellati (vocals), whose marriage and move to Long Island, NY hastened the end of an impressive eight-year run. Blische's songwriting and the twins' powerful vocal harmonies were augmented by the additions of bassist Phil Kalasz, drummer Steve Williams, and lead acoustic guitarist Andy Stein by 1994, resulting in a unique, original full band sound.

"I always thought," Blische says, "that I had this twin sister and we could conquer the world. We were strong apart, but I knew that neither of us individually was anywhere near what we were when we sang together. And forming the full band reinforced my belief that we could do special things."

Some of the special things InHouse achieved included three CDs in "Five Wooden Chairs" (1994), "The Beautiful Soup" (1995) and "Waking Juliet" (1998); appearances at the Warped Tour, Lilith Fair, and multiple SunFests, opening slots for headliners like Fleetwood Mac, Hall & Oates, Bonnie Raitt, and Ani DiFranco, plus out-of-state touring and interest from major recording labels while being managed by Jon Stoll (1953-2008) of Fantasma Productions.

All five original InHouse members return for the 25th anniversary reunion, along with guitarist Brian Franklin, who occasionally subbed for Stein in the early days of the quintet lineup.

Fans can expect material from all three CDs plus unreleased compositions; the heavenly harmonies of Blische and Scapellati, Stein's effects-laden acoustic soloing, and a possible influential Pink Floyd cover or two, on what's sure to be a memorable anniversary.
